4th Great Grandparents
Hello, my 4th. great grandfather was Patrick MacDougall, apparently in the 1764/65 Census of Eigg he is listed as Petter/Peter MacKeileid, from Galmisdale (formerly from South Uist) who married a widow lady Anne MacKay (nee MacIsaac). Ann had at least two children, John and Catherine by her first marriage, she and Patrick had one son Neil the progenitor of my family line. Neil was born on Isle of Muck but raised on Isle of Eigg. In 1791 (on Dunkeld or Colonel Fraser) Patrick and Neil immigrated to Pictou, Nova Scotia, later moved to Judique, Cape Breton, NS. Anne was too ill to make the trip and was left in the care of a MacKinnon family, she died that same year. I know all about my 3rd. Great grandfather and his descendants but would love to know more about Anne and where she might be buried, I am hoping to visit Eigg next spring and she is the one gravesite I would love to visit and pay my respects as it must have been shattering for her to be left behind. Any info on these families would be much appreciated.

Dear Barbara, thanks for reaching out. Sadly we do not know exactly where Anne is buried, but we presume it is in Eigg's protestant graveyard, unless she was a catholic, in which case we are not quite sure in which line inside the medieval chapel which she might be buried in, Depends who she was related to! So yes, it would be lovely to find out more about the family and their settling in the New world if you have more information on this...

McAskill family, The Manse, July 1952
Hi. I have recently come across an album of photos my parents (Norman & Tinnie Crowder) took in 1952 during a West of Scotland Road trip. Those taken on Eigg include 5 group photos of Mr & Mrs McAskill (Isobell?) with children and a full length photo of Calum. I also have a letter from Isobell thanking them for the enlargement of the Calum photo. Her address is The Manse, Isle of Eigg.
It would be nice to know more about the people in the photos and I will happily email opines to anyone interested.
Many thanks
Sarah Stone (nee Crowder)

Angus the Miller
Hi I wonder if you can give me any info my Grt x 3 grandfather who I believe was the Miller on Eigg he was Angus MacDonald, around the 1850s his son Hugh left and settled on Bute where the family still live,
I believe there was a son or brother of Angus the Miller named Colin who immigrated to Canada

Hi Robert, you still have relatives on Eigg.
Angus and Catherine had four of a family.
Mary, Hugh, Margaret and Colin.
Mary and Colin were married to Donald and Catherine MacQuarrie brother and sister.
Margaret was married to Neil MacLeod from Canna.
Colin's son Neil went to Canada in 1923.
Margaret's Great g granddaughter still lives on Eigg

Past relative on the island
Hello. My Great Grandad lived on the Isle of Eigg, spoke Gaelic and was a ploughman. His last name was McGilvray. Unfortunately, my Grandad didn't pass much information onto me about this before he passed away and I'd love to know more about my Great Grandad and his role on the island etc. If you have any records or information on him, I'd love to receive it. Thank you!
